Friday Favorites: October 24th + Feminism

This week's Friday Favorites is going to be a little different here on the
Live Bright. Be Bold. & Sparkle. blog.
Instead of my multiple favorites like usual, I only have one this week & this happens to be it.

Potty-Mouthed Princesses Drop F-Bombs for Feminism

You may have seen this video being shared around, receiving a lot of attention & controversy do to the fact that it features multiple young girls swearing.
Many people have very strong opinions on the language these young girls are using, however what really should disturb them, is the facts that are the sole purpose of this video.
Women face gender inequality every single day of their lives in many different instances.
For example, as this video shared, women are paid 23% less than men for the same work, please tell me how much sense that makes.
& if that doesn't say anything, in many cases, women that graduate with straight A's get paid the same as men that got straight C's.
We're teaching girls that bad grades = more bank, based solely on the fact that they're male.
Instead of waistlines defining women, why don't we focus on something else. Like hmm, I don't know, maybe their brain

After watching this video, I decided to scroll down the YouTube page to read some of the comments.

To say I was disgusted would be an understatement.
It featured many things like, "These girls will be whores in no time" or "Teach the women how to act like ladies and not dress like a hooker on the streets that would help too."
Why is it that when women finally stand up for themselves they're automatically labeled as "whores" or "sluts"?
Last time I checked, that didn't seem very "equal" to me.

As a senior in high school, I spent half of the year completing a project on women's self confidence & the impact the media has on it.
We teach women of all ages that they have to perfect, that you have to be skinny, you have to be sexually appealing to men, & it's a must to act the way men want you too, or else you'll be called degrading names for it.
I'm not saying that I completely blame men for the way they treat women, because our society has trained them to view & treat women as an objectified object. However, there has to be a time when everyone needs to realize that this is NOT okay
& what better time than now?

Feminism.

It's a word that holds many negative connotations that seem to be continuously growing. Referring to women that are Feminist as "Men Haters" is one of the most common.
However, I find this very hard to believe, when the literal definition is....
fem·i·nism : the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities
{http://www.merriam-webster.com}

Emma Watson did a truly magnificent job in her speech addressing gender equality.
If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you do.

When girls are young we teach them that being "bossy" is bad.
We teach young boys to not "run like a girl" because being a girl is a bad thing & not to express their feelings because it means their weak
We instill in teens that their bodies should be nothing less than perfect
We teach women not to dress certain ways because we're
"asking for it" when it comes to sexual assault & rape.
Which by the way, happens to 1 in every 5 women.

Why should women have to live their life in fear?
Why should I have to be afraid when I go for a walk alone fearing that something may happen to me?
Why should I be told I can't wear something because it's
"too distracting for males"?
Why should I feel 10x happier when someone tells me that I look like
I've "lost weight"?
Why is my level of intelligence worthless when compared to a male?
Why is it that when I stand up for myself, I am automatically called a bitch, no matter what the impact of the words coming out of my mouth are?
When is this nonsense finally going to change?

I am a Feminist & I am damn proud of it.

Rainy Day Essentials

Rain. As dreary as it is for some people. I love it.
It completely justifies cuddling up with a good book & a cup of tea all day long.
Here's my essentials for any rainy day.

A good pair of rain boots are a must
When you can't stay inside all day, you need pair that does the job but are cute of course.
These adorable hot pink ones from Hunter need to make an appearance in my life in the near future.

If you know me well, I have multiple journals that I keep around. I love being organized so each one serves a different purpose.
On rainy days like today, I love to sit by the window, listen to the rain, open them up & write.
& of course I can't do that without my favorite cup in my other hand.

There's just something that makes you feel so at peace when listening to the rain, reading a good book or magazine, & burning a candle.
I have genuinely been enjoying Lea Michelle's Brunette Ambition
that was featured in my Friday Favorites a couple weeks ago
& of course Food Network magazine.

Last but not least, it's impossible to spend your rainy day without a fuzzy blanket & lots of movies.

Enjoy your rainy day everyone!

Friday Favorites: October 17th

I hope you all had a wonderful week!
Here's this weeks favorites.
Enjoy!

Favorite Accessory: Bubble Necklace

I purchased this necklace around this time last year & still wear it on a regular basis.
Such great quality & makes any simple outfit pop.
I purchased this one & two others on an Etsy shop that no longer exists.
However, you can still find different ones that are very similar.

Favorite Tea: Oregon Chai

I am a huge chai tea lover & this powdered Oregon Chai mix is AMAZING.
I mix the powder with a splash of milk & then add my hot water, resulting in foamy deliciousness on top.
With a sprinkle of cinnamon, it's the perfect start to any morning.

Favorite Shoes: Target Booties

I purchased these from Target last winter.
Whether you're wearing skinny jeans or tights, they're the perfect little boots for fall.

Favorite Lip Product: Maybelline Color Whisper, A Plum Prospect

This plumy purple is beautiful for fall or winter time.
Maybelline's Color Whisper line is one of my ultimate favorites due to the fact that the color stays on for hours & the consistency feels way more like a chapstick on your lips opposed to a lipstick.

30 Days of Thanks

About a month ago you might have seen a challenge that was going around on Facebook. A person would be nominated to write three things they are thankful for, for seven days, nominating other people during this process.
I decided to grab a notebook & partake in my own challenge.
Hence, the 30 Days of Thanks.
For thirty days, each day I wrote down two things I was thankful for
& here's what came about from it.

1. The relationship I have with my sisters, I hold it close to my heart.
2. My dad, for coming to the rescue when I fear the house is burning down but it's really just the neighbor.
3. My parents for giving me the opportunity to have complete artistic freedom for the next year. They're the bomb.com.
4. John Mayer Pandora.
5. My beautiful nieces & nephew, that's making his debut into the family in February.
6. Chocolate.
7. Fall weather.
8. My puppies. Even though they bark excessively. I just love 'em.
9. My two high school art teachers. If I wasn't for them I truly wouldn't be where I am today.
10. Candles.
11. Pinterest. I'm a tad obsessed. It's totally normal though, right?...
12. Art. I wouldn't be me without it.
13. Surprises.
14. Fall in Maine. Apple picking, hot cider, leaves changing. I love it all.
15. Being able to spend time with my big sister when she comes home from college. It's usually nonstop laughter & I treasure every moment of it.
16. The ability to try new creative things.
17. Rain.
18. Sunday morning coffee with my family.
19. Chai tea.
20. Paige. Because only real best friends show up for walks wearing the exact same outfit.
21. Freshly picked apples.
22. Every moment I get to spend with my nieces. It's incredible how such little humans can bring you so much joy in life.
23. Throat drops. I've been poppin' them like candy this week. Yay for sickness!
24. New opportunities.
25. My whole family. I am entirely made up of the different people that have passed through my life. I'm so thankful for the solid foundation that they have built me on.
26. Freshly picked fruit.
27. My organizational skills. They can be very useful sometimes.
28. Naps.
29. The ocean.
30. Waking up every morning. Something that is so minuscule in a daily routine, isn't guaranteed for everyone.
31. Bike rides.
32. Fresh flowers.
33. My health.
34. Raspberry tea.
35. Bad days. As strange as it is, it's nice to be forced to sit back & realize how great your life really is. Just because it's a bad day doesn't mean it's a bad life.
36. Laughter.
37. Parks.
38. Days spent with my Mumma.
39. Good friends.
40. Relaxing days spent at home.
41. Family dinners.
42. The sound of rain as I fall asleep.
43. Theatre.
44. Sister humor.
45. All of the love that surrounds me in my everyday life.
46. The beautiful state I live in.
47. The times where I get to let go & sing & dance, & be silly with my nieces.
48. Yoga.
49. Pottery. Being out of high school, this is one of the things that I miss the most.
50. Afternoon walks.
51. Cooking & baking.
52. Creativity.
53. My old Drama Club. Forever family to me.
54. Music.
55. Handwritten letters.
56. My old art teacher, director, mentor, friend, Ms. Fox. She truly changes lives.
57. Memories.
58. Sunsets.
59. This journal that I am writing in. It was given to me at my graduation party filled with well wishes from my loved ones. I occasionally like to look back & read through them all. The confidence they have in my abilities & in myself as a person is incredible. I will never understand how I got so lucky to have a family like them.
60. Last but not least, the final thing I wrote down was all of you. Thank you for continuously supporting me, for not taking judgment on how I live my life, & for believing in me. Each moment that you take out of your day to take interest in reading a little blog that is focused on my life, honestly means more to me than any of you will ever know.

I am probably the worst person ever at journaling.
I write two days in a row, forget, & write again three years later.
I started this whole 30 Days of Thanks on a whim & this "journey" has forced me to open my journal every single day & write something even if I'm half asleep.
Taking a few minutes each day has truly been an eye opening experience & has made me forever grateful for every single moment of my beautiful life.
I have decided to continue my 30 Days, by taking out a new journal & writing at least one thing I am thankful for every day.
The benefits you reap from this will surprise you.

---The world has enough beautiful mountains and meadows, spectacular skies
 and serene lakes.
It has enough lush forests, flowered fields and sandy beaches.
It has plenty of stars and the promise of a new sunrise and sunset every day.
What the world needs more of is people to appreciate and enjoy it.

I challenge YOU to take part in your own 30 Days of Thanks.

Friday Favorites: October 10th

Due to some uploading issues, this post is going up a couple days late this week.
Sorry everyone!
Enjoy!
Favorite Earrings: Pulp

This was another pair of earrings that I purchased a couple weeks ago at Eastcraeft.
So beautiful. I'm officially obsessed with Pulp.

Favorite Book: A Field Guide to Fabric Design

I received this book as a gift from my two wonderful art teachers when I graduated.
So interesting & unique.
I can't wait to create some of the things featured in it!

Favorite Accessory: Kenneth Cole Sunglasses

I bought these sunglasses at the beginning of the summer at TJ Maxx for $14 because my favorite pair broke. But these have now won my heart.
Perfect for every season.

Favorite Product: Nivea Lip Butter

The best chapstick that you will EVER put on your lips.
When they say, lip butter. They mean it.
The perfect consistency & leaves my lips feeling soft for hours.
Plus, the raspberry rose scent is AMAZING.
The only thing I'm not such a fan of is having to apply it with my finger.
However, it does not make my love for it any less.

Friday Favorites: October 3rd

Happy Friday!
Since it's a new month, I thought I would start something new here on my blog! Each friday I will be posting a couple of my favorites in addition to my other posts.
I hope you enjoy!

Favorite Book: Lea Michelle Brunette Ambition

This book has everything you could want & more.
An insight into her life, but also fashion, food, fitness, & life tips.
I would highly recommend it to anyone!
This "C" cup is also one of my new favorites. I picked it up at Target last week & fell in love.
Plus Chai tea automatically tastes better in a pretty cup, right?

Favorite Nail Polish: Wet n Wild, Through the Grapevine

The perfect fall color!
I have tried just about everything to stop my nails from chipping so quickly, however nothing seems to suffice.
I bought this on whim at Target on sale for $1.79 & has lasted three days without one chip!

Favorite Accessory: Pulp Earrings

I purchased these earrings a couple weeks ago at a lovely store in my town, Eastcraeft.
I admired these from afar for many times & finally decided to purchase them.
So unique & beautiful. I'm slightly obsessed.

Favorite Shoes: Steve Madden Flats

$45.00 on sale for $4.89. Does it even get any better than that?
The perfect addition to any fall outfit.
